More than two worlds collide in the expo ‘Clues (A Speculative Present)’. Hyperreal, digitally animated 3D scenes from the netherworld by Frederik Heyman are populated with the analogue, neo-folkloric objects sprung from the imagination of Klaas Rommelaere and his group of senior citizen collaborators and people from his hometowns Roeselare and Ingelmunster. These colourful hand-knitted, knotted, crocheted and embroidered sculptures are the result of a spontaneous process of analogue psychographics, where different layers made from the materials of people’s life stories are continuously written and rewritten onto each other. Heyman and Rommelaere give free rein to ancestral rituals and matriarchal narratives, far away and nearby: in the process, a shared omnivorous and tactile universe emerges.
