Benny VDMV, Vase, sculpture, DMW Gallery

Benny Van den Meulengracht-Vrancx is a multidisciplinary artist who blends drawing, found objects, and digital culture to explore themes of perception and existence. Based in Antwerp, he is also an exhibition maker, art director, writer, designer, and photographer. From 2011 to 2018, he ran Hole Of The Fox, an artist-run space, and is currently the art director of Doel Festival.

His work examines identity and expression in the digital age, focusing on online communities and fanart. By incorporating digital culture and image manipulation, he blurs traditional artistic boundaries. His exploration of self-image, especially in the context of social media, reflects the evolving nature of identity in virtual spaces.

Van den Meulengracht-Vrancx often reinterprets pop culture references, questioning originality and ownership in the internet era. His work also includes uncanny selfies and app-generated images, reflecting digital identity’s anonymity and performativity. His recent exhibition, Ai, explores time, impermanence, and the intersection of human and artificial creation, incorporating both physical objects and self-portrait photography.

Known for his installations with fragile, found objects, his work often reflects on memory and the passage of time. Recent pieces like Birth of an A.I. explore the concept of AI’s creation and dissolution. His exhibitions, such as Through My Eyes (2020-2021), also tackle themes like collective trauma and our relationship with technology.

Van den Meulengracht-Vrancx remains an active figure in the contemporary art scene with exhibitions across Europe, including recent shows in Norway, Belgium, and Italy. He is preparing his first solo exhibition at DMW Gallery in October 2025.
